LUNA Community Care was founded in 2020 by Tara Boulais and Casey Gallagher. Along with two other worker-owners, Sy Bedrick, and Jeremiah Rainville, we incorporated as a worker’s cooperative business in June 2022.

We are the first disabled workers cooperative in the United States! All of our worker-owners and peer facilitators are Disabled, Neurodivergent individuals and LUNA is built on the foundation of Disability Justice and Equity.

Owned, governed, and managed by our worker-owners, with feedback from other members of our community, LUNA provides peer support services (information, community care, peer groups & special interest clubs, and workshops) for Neurodivergent adults (18+), as well as consultation and training for individuals and grassroots businesses seeking to improve their understanding of Neurodivergence and promote disability inclusion in their lives and workplace.

Our Mission

LUNA Community Care is a disabled workers cooperative that provides peer support, education, training, advocacy, and community events centered around Neurodiversity and Disability Justice.

Our Vision

Our vision as an organization is to improve the quality of life for Neurodivergent adults, and to promote a shift in the culture, attitudes, and acceptance of Neurodivergent and Disabled individuals in the community.

Our Values

LIVED EXPERIENCE: We are a cooperative community, led by/for Neurodivergent adults. All co-op worker owners, volunteers, participants, and community members have intersectional lived experience. All affinity/identity-based groups are led by those with shared lived experience.

ADVOCACY: We strive to build a world in which Neurodivergence is understood and celebrated. We educate our greater community about societal and internal biases, as well as the discrimination we face as Neurodivergent, Disabled, Chronically Ill, and/or Mad adults.

ANTI-OPPRESSIVE: Our space is anti-ableist, anti-carceral, anti-oppressive, and led by the principles of Disability Justice. We intentionally provide a supportive and accessible space

MUTUALITY: We are all worthy of giving and receiving care. We support each other by building a community of care, where everyone matters and everyone is equal.

JOY: We recognize that there is a trope built around “inspirational” or “happy” disabled individuals and also recognize that as disabled individuals we often lack access to community events and activities that spark moments of joy. As such, we encourage community events, groups and clubs that help us explore and celebrate Neurodivergent joy!

SELF-DETERMINATION: We believe that every individual is their own expert and has the right to make their own choices and control their healing journey.
